Spring Cleaning My Wardrobe

Tuesday, April 11, 2017

Decluttering your wardrobe can be a daunting task, especially if you are anything like me and just accumulate clothes until they can no longer fit in your wardrobe! I haven’t actually bought many clothes in the last year but when something fits and there is nothing wrong with it I just seem to hold onto it even if it's not being worn. There are even things from years ago in my wardrobe that I haven't worn for as long as I can remember. However, I finally got around to looking through my clothes and giving my wardrobe a much needed tidy. It was time to sort it out and give my wardrobe a major overhaul...

Declutter

I started by emptying my entire wardrobe... this is just part of the mess that I made!

Once my wardrobe was empty I cleaned it all and began the daunting task of sorting through everything I had taken out. This time I knew I needed to be a lot more ruthless when it came to deciding what to keep and what I no longer wanted.

I decided that the best way to sort it would be to look at each item and sort everything into different piles. I ended up sorting everything into a keep, give to charity, sell and throw away pile.

Organisation

After organising my clothes into the various piles, I photographed all of the clothes to sell and stored them in a plastic box ready to list on eBay. I also put all of the clothes to give to charity in a black sack and put any clothes to throw away in a bag ready to take to the recycling centre. I then got to work organising my 'to keep' pile into categories to put back into my wardrobe.

I like to use these black wire hangers that I bought from Dunelm Mill to hang my clothes. They are only £1.99 and come in packs of 10! They are great because they are slim so I can fit a lot more in my wardrobe.

I similarly folded up my shelved clothes into sections and organised my drawers into different categories.

Finally, I put my winter jumpers into a black zip up box from Ikea and stored them on the top shelf of my wardrobe. Hopefully, I won't need them for a while!

After the mess I started with, organising things was extremely satisfying!

It took me the full day to sort my entire wardrobe out! However, I feel so much happier after having a declutter. I've also made some room so I can purchase a few new items for Spring/Summer.

The next thing on my list to tackle is my bags and shoes so expect a post on that very soon!

  1. This is such a fab post! I had a bit of a clothes declutter the other day too, and I made sure that I was super ruthless with the things that I was throwing out/giving to charity. I'm quite a hoarder when it comes to clothes and I'll keep things, even though I know I'll never wear them again, so I had to be strict! I feel so much better now for it and it's the perfect excuse to update my wardrobe a little bit.
